Tuesday Round-up: Hampton, Unaka Pick Up Opening Day Wins; Cyclones Take Two

The Cyclones erased a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to come back and win the first game of the season.

Andrew Barnett had 17 points to lead the way for the Cyclones, while Hudson Pate had 14 points. Zach Wallin tossed in 10 points.

Nathan Bailey and Justus Wallin had eight and seven points, respectively.

Elizabethton 57, Cocke County 55
The Cyclones held off Cocke County in the nightcap as Barnett hit a pair of late free throws to secure the game.

Bailey had 17 points to lead EHS, while Barnett added 11 points. Z. Wallin scored 10 points.

Unaka 98, ACTs (Va.) 49
The Rangers rolled on opening night on Stoney Creek.

Unaka jumped out to a 25-7 lead behind 12 first-quarter points from John Hardin to take control early.

Hardin finished with 30 points to lead Unaka, while TJ Good added 15 points. Austin Lambert and Aiden Walsh had 12 points apiece. Rylan Crabtree scored nine points.

Hampton 78, Cornerstone Christian (Va.) 38
The Bulldogs jumped out early and never looked back.

Hampton’s Chase Davenport scored the first eight points of the game, and the Bulldogs cruised to the win.

Davenport had 19 points to lead Hampton.

Hampton 56, Tennessee High 51
The Lady Bulldogs used a 15-1 run to end the second quarter to take control and then held off a late Tennessee High charge to win on opening day.

Piper Helle had 13 points to lead Hampton, while Hannah Smith finished with 12 points. Faye Carrico scored 10 points. Ella Eastep and Brea Hicks had eight and seven points, respectively.

Cocke County 68, Elizabethton 49
The Lady Cyclones were unable to keep pace on Tuesday night.

Cocke County jumped out to an early lead and was able to keep Elizabethton at bay.

Reagan May had 10 points to lead EHS, while Jamira Smalls had nine points. Kayelyn Nave had eight points for the Lady Cyclones.

Unaka 75, ACTS (Va.) 17
The Lady Rangers cruised to an opening-day victory.

Unaka outscored ACTS 26-5 in the opening quarter and held a 48-7 halftime advantage.

Michelle Shields had 24 points to lead Unaka, while Katlynn Dugger and Emma Taylor had nine points apiece. Brooklyn Campbell added eight points.

In total, all 11 Unaka players reached the scorebook in the game.
