Tuesday Round-up: Unaka Out Duels Cloudland For Win

Unaka 4, Cloudland 2 (softball)
The Lady Rangers out dueled Cloudland for a key district win on Tuesday afternoon.

Unaka opened the scoring as Noelle Collins drove in Trinity Bowers in the top of the first, and Kylie Blevins used a sacrifice fly to allow Lyndie Ramsey to cross the plate in the second inning.

Cloudland, however, countered in the homeside of the fourth as Ryan Turbyfill crossed home plate off a Heaven Caraway hit.

Unaka extended the lead in the top of the sixth as a Hailey Gilman double plated two runs. The ‘Landers looked to rally in the seven as Krisi Bare scored on a Karah Fields single, but Cloudland was unable to continue the rally.

Sadie Shoun, Ramsey, Gilman, and Collins had two hits apiece, while Bowers also added a hit.

Fields recorded two hits for the Lady ‘Landers, while Marley Hughes, Jasmine Birchfield, Bare, and Turbyfill each had a hit.

In the pitching circle, Shoun picked up the win as she allowed one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

Fields also went the distance for Cloudland as she allowed just two earned runs on nine hits.


Sullivan North 13, Hampton 4 (softball)
The Lady Bulldogs were unable to keep pace with the Sullivan North bats on Tuesday.

North jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two complete innings, but Hampton battled back to trim the deficit to 7-3 in the third. The Lady Bulldogs, however, were unable to keep the momentum.

Madison Setlock was 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Lady Bulldogs.

Elizabethton 11, Johnson County 7 (softball)
Elizabethton broke open a tied game with four runs in the top of the sixth to take a Three Rivers Conference win.

After the game entered the sixth inning tied at 7-7, Mollie Johnson hit a single to score Mailey Ingram, and Johnson then scored off a Maddie O’Quinn double. Kallista Deprimo and O’Quinn also scored to give EHS an 11-7 lead and the defense held strong to secure the win.

Ingram was 3-for-4 to lead the way at the plate, while Madisun Pritchard and Johnson both recorded two hits. Kenidy Harris, Emma O’Quinn, and Ingram had two RBI apiece.

In the circle, Pritchard picked up the win as she struck out eight batters while giving up just six earned runs on seven hits.

Hampton 7, Flames 1
Hampton 12, Flames 2 (baseball)
The Bulldogs continued their hot streak on Tuesday night with a sweep over the FCA Flames. Hampton has won five of their last six games.

The first game saw Chance Point and Conor Jones go 2-for-3 to lead the Bulldogs effort at the plate. Josh Whitson picked up his first career win on the mound as he allowed just one earned run on two hits in a complete-game effort.

In the second game, Brody Hicks earned his first career win on the mound as he allowed just two earned runs on two hits with six strikeouts.

Morgan Lyons was 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Caleb Royston was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Point added two hits for the Bulldogs.

Elizabethton 16, Sullivan Central 5 (baseball)
The Cyclones took control with 14 runs in the second inning and never looked back.

Gage Treadway was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Padraig Murphy tallied three RBI with a hit. Noah Rosato also added three RBI, while Ashton Wilson tallied two RBI.

On the mound, Treadway picked up the win as he allowed just two earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work.
