The Lady Rangers kept their season alive in a big way.

Unaka claimed a spot in the Region 1-A Championship game as well as a berth in the Class A substate with an 8-1 victory over Unaka on Monday on Stoney Creek.

Neither team was able to get anything going early on until the Unaka bats broke open the game in the bottom of the third.

Katlyn Weaver and Erika Potter each pushed two runs across home plate, while Madison Pierce also batted in a run to give UHS a 5-0 lead after three complete innings.

After the Lady ‘Kees put a run on the board in the fourth, the teams held steady in the fifth.

The Lady Rangers added some insurance to the total as Lily Kiser, Savannah Tipton and Sidney Markland touched home plate as UHS took an 8-1 advantage into the final inning.

Corie Scheuttler recorded two strikeouts in the top of the seventh – including the final out – to secure the win for the Lady Rangers.

Scheuttler gave up just three hits and one unearned run while striking out 13 batters.

At the plate, Sav. Tipton was 3-for-3, while Sarah Tipton and Pierce had two hits apiece.

The Lady Rangers now turn their attention to North Greene – who will make the trip to Stoney Creek for the Region 1-A Championship on Wednesday.
