Lady Rangers roll past Cosby, Rangers fall short

It was a night of big runs on Stoney Creek Friday night.

The Unaka boys’ basketball was unable to keep pace with a frantic Cosby attack in the third quarter as they fell 92-62 in nonconference action, while the Lady Rangers scored early and often to take a 68-30 lead over the Lady Eagles.


In the boys’ game, Unaka saw Cosby jump out quickly to a 14-4 lead in the opening minutes. The Rangers battled back to pull within seven in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Cosby, however, held a 12-point advantage at the half.

The Eagles got the offense cranking in the third quarter as the Rangers were unable to keep pace. Unaka was outscored 32-10 in the frame. From there, Cosby was able to keep the Rangers at bay.

Kyler Lewis led all scorers with an impressive 34 points in the game.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Rangers jumped out early as they took a 21-6 lead in the first quarter. Unaka held a 35-19 lead at the half.

From there, it was all Lady Rangers as UHS outscored Cosby 19-7 in the third quarter and limited the Lady Eagles to four points in the final period.

Madison Ensor had 13 points to lead all scorers, while Kaitlyn Burrow had nine points. Kaitlyn Weaver and Myah Parlier added eight points apiece.

In all, 11 players scored for Unaka.
