Lady Rangers Take Care Of Business On The Road To Advance

Unaka took care of business on the road Friday night.

The Lady Rangers pulled away early to take a 52-38 Region 1-A quarterfinal victory over Washburn at Washburn.

Unaka advanced to Monday’s Region 1-A semifinals against North Greene.

The Lady Rangers took control early.

Lyndie Ramsey scored eight points in the opening quarter, while Macy Ensor and Julie Simerly each added a 3-pointer as Unaka took a 14-5 lead after a quarter of play.

Unaka kept the pressure on and outscored the Lady Pirates 18-11 in the stanza to take a 32-16 advantage into the half.

Washburn was able to cut into the UHS lead in the third quarter, but the Lady Rangers stopped any thought of a comeback with a balanced fourth quarter that saw five players score to secure the win.

Ramsey finished with 23 points to lead the way, while Ensor and Simerly each had nine points. Tara Whitehead and Mailey Guy scored five and four points, respectively.

Braelyn Coffey scored 22 points to lead Washburn.
