Unaka jumped out early and never looked back.

The Lady Rangers plated five runs in the first inning and used a dominant pitching performance to take a 7-1 victory over North Greene for a crucial District 1-A victory.

With the win, Unaka clinched at least a share of the District 1-A Championship and will clinch the title outright with a win in one of their last two league games.

After the Lady Rangers retired the Lady Huskies in order to open the game, Unaka struck first as Trinity Bowers scored Lyndie Ramsey with a single.

Runners advanced but Unaka saw the next two batters get retired. With two outs, however, Unaka saw Sadie Shoun, Kylie Blevins, and Jill Faust touch home plate to give Unaka a 5-0 lead after an inning of play.

The second inning saw Bowers and the Lady Rangers retire the Lady Huskies in order in the top of the second.

Alana Parsons hit a single in the home side of the second, but Unaka was unable to plate the run.

North Greene took advantage of an Unaka error in the top of the third to plate a run. That would be the lone run scored in the inning as Unaka held strong.

Neither team could get a run on the board until the bottom of the sixth when Ramsey and Shoun crossed home plate to account for the final score.

Shoun and Bowers had two hits apiece, while Blevins, Faust, and Parsons had a hit apiece.

In the pitching circle, Bowers allowed just one unearned run on two hits in seven innings of work while tallying six strikeouts.
