Unaka went on the road Friday night and extended their season.

Will Sexton scored 33 points as the Rangers took a 50-45 victory over University High in the District 1-A quarterfinals inside Brooks Gym.

With the win, Unaka will travel to North Greene on Saturday for the semifinals, and also clinched a spot in the Region 1-A tournament.

It was a tight battle in the early going as the teams traded shots. UHS held a 9-8 after the first quarter.

The Rangers were able to get a little breathing room in the second as they outscored the homestanding Bucs 17-11 in the frame. That allowed the Rangers to take a 26-19 halftime lead.

The second half continued to be a battle for both squads. Unaka, however, continued to hold a slim lead after the third quarter.

UH regained the lead in the fourth quarter, but Sexton and company took care of business in the final minutes and then secured the win at the free-throw line.

Joe Blamo added 10 points for the Ranger cause.

Kaleb Meredith had 18 points to lead UH.
