Unaka came up on the wrong end of a heartbreaker on Friday night.

The Rangers dropped a heartbreaking 42-26 decision to Midway in the first round of the TSSAA Class A playoffs after the Green Wave reeled off 28 points in the final eight minutes of the game.

It was a thriller on Stoney Creek.

After Midway took a 6-0 lead, Unaka countered as Landon Ramsey hit Devin Ramsey for a 50-yard touchdown and added the two-point conversion to give the Rangers an 8-6 lead.

Midway, however, added a short touchdown in the closing minutes of the quarter to take a 14-8 lead into the second quarter.

Neither team was able to break onto the board in the second stanza as Midway maintained a 14-8 advantage.

The Rangers, however, battled back in a big way.

Jamol Blamo evened things up at 14-14 in the first minute of the third quarter as he raced 51 yards for the touchdown.

Later in the quarter, D. Ramsey caught an L. Ramsey pass for an 89-yard touchdown that pushed UHS into the lead. As the third quarter expired, L. Ramsey scored on a four-yard run as Unaka took a 26-14 lead into the final 12 minutes of the game.

Emmet Hegland and the Green Wave roared to life in the fourth quarter as Hegland reeled off four touchdowns to propel Midway to the win.
