Unaka has to wait a little longer to finish the season opener.

The Rangers saw their season-opening contest at North Greene suspended until Monday afternoon due to heavy rain and lightning that came at half in Baileyton. The game is set to resume at 5 p.m.

Before the rains came, it was a back-and-forth battle between the two schools.

North Greene jumped out early with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Brayden Garber as he connected with Ethan Atnip four minutes into the opening quarter.

The Rangers, however, answered with a methodical drive that was capped off when Daniel Shearl hit Devin Ramsey for a 25-yard touchdown to even the score at 6-6. Logan Benway added the conversion to give UHS an 8-6 lead after a quarter of play.

In the second quarter, the Huskies regained the lead off of a pick-six. The Rangers were able to move deep into NG territory in the closing minutes of the half, but the drive stalled after an interception.
