Unaka Rolls Past North Greene For Season-Opening Win

Unaka opened the season in a big way.

The Rangers rolled to a 42-0 victory at North Greene on Friday night in the season opener that also opened Region 1-A play.

Unaka got started early and never looked back.

After the Ranger defense forced an NG punt, UHS capped off its first drive of the season when Landon Ramsey connected with Devin Ramsey for a 28-yard touchdown pass. The brothers connected again later in the quarter for a 12-yard touchdown that gave the Rangers a 12-0 lead.

Brayden Powell and the Unaka defense continued to have North Greene’s number as a Powell interception set up a 19-yard touchdown from Joe Blamo and L. Ramsey added the two-point conversion to give Unaka a 20-0 lead after a quarter of play.

Unaka left no doubt in the second.

The second-quarter scoring got started when L. Ramsey hit D. Ramsey for a 70-yard touchdown and Blamo added the two-point conversion. Takoda Freeman caught an L. Ramsey pass for a 67-yard touchdown later in the quarter to extend the lead.

Unaka recorded another interception when Caleb Lydick nabbed a Husky pass right outside the goal line. A couple of plays later, Blamo raced 82 yards for a score to give Unaka the 42-0 lead at the break.

From there, Unaka was able to keep North Greene out of the endzone to secure the shutout.

L. Ramsey finished 10-of-23 passing for 245 yards, while D. Ramsey caught four passes for 124 yards. Blamo tallied 148 yards on nine carries.

Freeman had two catches for 117 yards. Defensively, D. Ramsey had six solo tackles, while Drew Smith added four solo tackles.

As a team, Unaka out gained North Greene 394-94.

The Rangers return to action on Friday night with an important game at home against Cloudland for a Region 1-A clash.
