The Unaka football team was unable to mark their return to the playoffs with an upset on Friday night.

The Rangers saw their season come to a close in a 51-6 loss to Greenback in the opening round of the TSSAA Class A playoffs in Greenback.

The top-seed from Region 2 was too much for Unaka to overcome on Friday night.

The Cherokees jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening minute, and quickly pushed the advantage to 30-0 at the end of the quarter. Unaka continued to fight but was unable to get anything going as they trailed 51-0 at the break.

The Rangers broke onto the board in the third quarter as Logan Benway capped off a strong Ranger drive with a two yard touchdown. Unaka, however, was unable to get back on the board before time expired.

Unaka finishes up the 2019 season with a 2-9 record.
