Unaka’s Upset Bid Comes Up Short At Jellico

Unaka saw an upset bid come up short on Saturday night.

The Rangers dropped a hard-fought 71-66 decision to Jellico in the Region 1-A quarterfinals. Unaka’s season comes to a close with the loss.

The Rangers held the upper hand early.

Landon Ramsey scored eight points in the opening eight minutes, while Joe-Z Blamo added four points as the Rangers took an 18-12 lead after a quarter of play.

Jellico was able to even things up in the second quarter as the half ended in a 27-27 stalemate.

Joseph Slagle provided five points in the third quarter to help kick start the Unaka effort in the period while Ramsey tossed in nine points in the frame.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle as neither team could get much breathing room.

In the closing minutes, Jellico was able to edge ahead and hold for the win.

Blamo led Unaka with 24 points. Ramsey added 21 points, while Gavin Seigfried had 11 points. Slagle scored eight points.

Gracin Gerber and Isaac McNealy had 24 and 22 points, respectively, to lead Jellico.
