The Lady Cyclones got the Senior Night party started in style, but the Cyclones were unable to make it a sweep.
Elizabethton girls scored early and often to take a 95-42 victory over Science Hill, but the Cyclones saw the Hilltoppers rally in a 52-50 overtime loss.
The Lady Cyclones scored early and often in the Senior Night rout in front of a packed house that included Tennessee Lady Vols Head Coach Holly Warlick. After a sluggish opening stretch, Emily Kiser and Kayla Marosites got the Elizabethton squad heated up as they rolled to a 31-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Kiser continued to hold the hot hand shooting in the second with three 3-pointers, and Elizabethton rolled to a 63-24 halftime advantage.
From there, the Lady Cyclones were able to give the five seniors a standing ovation as they slowly edged the lead while getting some younger players playing time.
Marosites tallied 26 points, while Kiser added 24 points. Kelci Marosites tallied 15 points, while Emily Schubert and Melinda Perry had 13 and 9 points, respectively.
For the Cyclones, it was a quick start. Seniors Bo Pless and Teve Mushayamunda pushed EHS to an early 5-0 lead and fellow senior Michael Robinson helped power the Cyclones to a 14-6 first quarter lead. Senior Tre McCrary kept the EHS on a roll with a pair of points. the Cyclones held a 26-15 lead at the break.
The third quarter, however, was disastrous for Elizabethton. The Cyclones were held to just four points as Science Hill roared back to tie the game at 30-30 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the teams traded points until Peyton Wingate helped push the Hilltoppers to a six-point advantage.
However, Elizabethton forced their way back into the game with a Pless trey that sent the game into overtime. The extra period saw Michael Robinson tie the game at 50-50 late, but Chris Linville hit a shot in the final seconds to push SH back into the lead. Elizabethton had a chance for a last second shot, but they were unable to connect.
Pless finished with 24 points, while Robinson added 12 points.
