‘Betsy, Dogs hold steady with wins

Two blowout wins held the Hampton and Elizabethton football teams in place in the Tennessee AP Prep Football poll.


The Cyclones held firm in the No. 5 spot in the Class 3A poll. The Cyclones, who rolled past West Greene on Friday night, tallied 88 points in the ranking. Alcoa claimed the top spot, while CAK and CPA rounded out the top three. Liberty Magnet was 29 points ahead of Elizabethton in the fourth spot.

Elizabethton returns to action on Friday at Chuckey-Doak.

Hampton rolled past South Greene on Friday night, and remained ranked in the No. 4 spot in Class 2A. The Bulldogs, who tallied 116 points, received two first-place votes, and were seven points away from No. 3 Adamsville. Boyd Buchanan garnered the remaining first-place votes to claim the top spot with Marion County in No. 2.

The Bulldogs look to remain perfect with a trip to North Greene on Friday night.

Other local teams in the rankings include Science Hill (No. 5 in Class 6A), Greeneville (No. 2 in Class 4A) and Sullivan North (No. 7 in Class 2A).
