Hampton used a strong second-half performance to secure a region title.

The Bulldogs pulled away to take a 32-14 victory and the Region 1-2A Championship over South Greene on Friday night at JC Campbell Stadium.

With the win, the Bulldogs secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and will host Polk County for the first round.

Points were hard to come by in the opening half.

After the first quarter ended scoreless, the Bulldogs got on the board when JJ McElyea scored on a 19-yard run to give HHS a 6-0 lead.

The score was set up by a Grayson Young interception.

South Greene, however, struck in the final minutes of the half as Jacob Susong hit Dion Blair for a four-yard touchdown.

That score gave the Rebels a 7-6 lead at the half.

Hampton started to take control in the third.

Dylan Trivette regained the lead for Hampton midway through the third quarter as the senior scored on an eight-yard run. The Bulldogs extended the lead when Dom Burleson picked up an SG backward pass and took it 48 yards for the touchdown to push the Hampton lead to 18-7 after three complete quarters.

Burleson struck early in the quarter as he scored on a one-yard run, but SG cut the Hampton lead to 24-14 after Susong hit Trey Gentry for an 11-yard touchdown with 7:26 left on the clock.

The Bulldogs, however, put an exclamation point on the win in the final minute as McElyea scored on an 11-yard touchdown.

Burleson had 38 carries for 210 yards, while Trivett had 13 carries for 55 yards.

As a team, Hampton rushed for 304 yards.
