Hampton was unable to overcome a quick start on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs dropped a 10-0 decision to University High in the Region 1-A Baseball Championship at David Crockett.

Hampton is set to travel to Coalfield -who held off a Greenback rally to take a 9-8 victory in the Region 2-A Championship game – on Friday afternoon with a trip to the Spring Fling on the line.

First pitch at Coalfield is slated for 5:30p.

Chance Point opened the game with a single to right field, but the Bulldogs were unable to continue the momentum in the opening inning.

The Bucs had a quick start as three straight doubles gave UH a 3-0 advantage, and UH pushed the advantage to 5-0 after an inning of play.

Hampton saw Conor Jones draw a walk in the top of the second, but the Bulldogs were unable to move the runner.

Another big home side of the frame gave UH a 9-0 lead after two complete.

The Bulldogs, however, kept fighting.

Point hit his second single of the day in the top of the third, and Morgan Lyons drew a walk to get two runners on with two outs. A fielder’s choice ended the frame.

Nothing was doing for the Bulldogs in the fourth and fifth inning as UH pitcher Mile Bembry continued to limit Hampton’s opportunities.

“In his three consecutive starts against us, we have not been able to solve University High’s lefty (Miles Bembry),” Hampton Head Coach Nicholas Perkins said. “They are a good team. It’s time to immediately transition to preparation for our Substate game at the Coalfield Yellow Jackets. We are excited about the opportunity but know a big challenge awaits us.”

Point was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs.

Bembry finished with nine strikeouts for UH.
