Bulldogs Fall To Eagleton In Region 1-2A Clash

Hampton came up short in Region 1-2A play on Friday night.

The Bulldogs dropped a 36-20 decision to Region 1-2A foe Eagleton in the second game of the Clash For Compassion at ETSU.

After a back-and-forth battle to open the game, Eagleton jumped out to an 8-0 lead late in the first as Nathan Clemmer found Navaar Risner for an eight-yard touchdown.

Hampton answered early in the second quarter as Dom Burleson raced 40 yards for a touchdown as Hampton cut the deficit to 8-6 two minutes into the second quarter.

The Royals, however, answered quickly as Wyott Matossian took the ensuing kickoff to the house for an 85-yard touchdown.

A few minutes later, Burleson struck again as the running back broke free for a 17-yard score to pull Hampton within 15-12 with 7:07 left in the second quarter.

Clemmer found Tyson Click in the closing second of the first half for a 10-yard touchdown, and the Royals held a 22-12 lead at the half.

After Clemmer scored on a 48-yard touchdown run, Hampton battled back as Burleson scored on a seven-yard run to pull HHS back within 29-20 with just over six minutes remaining in the third.

Eagleton pushed the lead to 36-20 with two minutes left in the first as Colton Relation scored on a 15-yard touchdown.

Hampton continued to fight but was unable to get a rally started in the final quarter.

Burleson led Hampton with 222 yards on 37 carries. Relation had 150 yards on 17 carries for Eagleton.
