The Hampton basketball programs picked up key road wins in District 1-A play on Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs remained perfect on the season with a 51-45 win over North Greene, while the Bulldogs pulled away to take a 68-52 victory over the Huskies.
After North Greene opened the scoring for the girls’ game, Madi McClain scored five straight points to take the lead for Hampton. Key shots from Macy Henry and Taylor Berry gave Hampton a 16-5 lead after a quarter of play.
The Lady Huskies battled back to trim the lead to five points at the half.
Hampton used a third-quarter run sparked by a Macy Henry trey to get some breathing room, but once again NG battled as HHS maintained a four-point advantage after three complete quarters.
The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle as the teams traded shots, but Hampton was able to secure the win at the free-throw line in the closing moments.
McClain had 14 points to pace Hampton, while Henry had 13 points. Linsey Jenkins and Berry finished with nine and seven points, respectively.
Sonya Wagner led North Greene with 17 points.
In the boys’ game, Hampton used a big second half to pull away and take the win.
After NG took an early 8-4 lead, Hampton battled back and took a 13-12 lead after the first quarter with big shots from Hayden Campbell, Michael Anspaugh, and Geno Carrico.
The back-and-forth nature continued in the second quarter as Hampton was able to use an Anspaugh 3-pointer to take a 29-24 lead into the half.
In the second half, it was all Hampton.
Chance Point opened the half with a pair of shots, and the Bulldogs quickly took a double-digit lead.
Hampton maintained a 51-40 lead after the third quarter and kept NG at bay the rest of the way.
Cadon Buckles had 23 points to lead the way for Hampton, while Anspaugh had 14 points. Point added 10 points.
Campbell and Carrico had eight points apiece.
Jason Britton led North Greene with 21 points.
