Bulldogs, ‘Landers and Cyclones remain in AP poll

Three Carter County teams remained inside the Tennessee Prep Football AP poll after the first week of action.

Elizabethton remained ranked No. 7 in Class 3A after the off week. The Cyclones tallied 54 points in the poll.

Alcoa was an unanimous No. 1 selection as they collected all 13 first-place votes. Liberty Magnet, Notre Dame, CAK and CPA rounded out the top five.

In Class 2A, Hampton moved to No. 7 after dismantling Avery County (N.C.) in Week 1 action. The Bulldogs tallied 50 points and a first-place vote. Trezevant was the top team in the poll, while Marion County and Boyd Buchanan were No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Hampton was just 11 points away from cracking the top five.

Cloudland turned a lot of heads in the heartbreaking 41-38 loss at Northview Academy on Friday as the voters moved the ‘Landers up a spot to No. 9 in the Class A poll. The ‘Landers tallied 14 points.

Nashville Christian School was the No. 1 ranked team, while Dresden and Union City rounded out the top three.

All three teams return to action on Friday as Elizabethton (vs. Science Hill) and Cloudland (vs. Happy Valley) open their home slate of their games while Hampton will make the trip to Johnson County.
