Bulldogs remain undefeated in district play; Lady Bulldogs fall

Hampton remained perfect in district play in style.

The Bulldogs cruised past South Greene for a 73-50 on Friday night. The Lady Bulldogs, however, were unable to record an upset as they fell 60-49 to the defending state champion Lady Rebels.


In the boys’ game, the Bulldogs, who scored the game’s first nine points, led 16-5 at the end of the first quarter. That turned into a 41-17 lead at the half as Hampton put the game in cruise control.

Wyatt Lyons scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs. Jose Velazquez had 15 points while Charlet Butler and Dru Owens had eight points apiece. Chris Timmons tossed in seven points for the Hampton cause.

In the varsity opener, the Lady Bulldogs stayed within striking distance but was unable to get over the edge against the Lady Rebels. After SG led 29-20 at the break, the Lady Rebels pushed the lead to double-digits. Hampton continued to fight but was unable to cut into the lead.

Shy Tuelle had 26 points to lead all scorers, while Alexus Grubbs tallied 14 points.
