Bulldogs Run Past Unaka

The Hampton running game set the tone in a Thursday night special.

The Bulldogs ran for 473 yards to take a 36-0 victory over Unaka on Stoney Creek in nonconference action.

Hampton improved to 8-1 in the year with the win, while the Rangers move to 5-4 on the season. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Unaka.

The defenses came up big on the drives in the early going.
Hampton came up empty on the game’s opening drive as the Rangers held strong on fourth down deep in their own territory.

The Bulldogs, however, forced a fumble on the next play, and then saw Lunsford score three plays later to give Hampton a 6-0 lead.

Unaka, however, kept fighting as Landon Ramsey and Joe-Z Blamo connected and the Rangers moved to the Hampton 10.

However, the Bulldogs stopped Unaka on fourth down.

The Hampton offense ate a big chunk of time early in the second quarter with a 17-play drive. Dylan Trivett found Jonathon Greenwell for a 15-yard touchdown pass.

Lunsford added the two-point conversion as Hampton took a 14-0 lead midway through the stanza.

After Unaka was unable to get anything going on the next drive, the Ranger defense rose to the occasion once again as Blamo intercepted a Hampton pass to end the half as Hampton maintained a 14-0 lead.

The third quarter saw the Bulldogs start to pull away.

Unaka was unable to get anything going on the first drive of the half. Hampton moved to midfield, and Dominique Burleson broke free from a 54-yard touchdown to increase the HHS lead

Lunsford added a one-yard run later in the quarter as Hampton held a 30-0 advantage after three complete quarters.

Unaka continued to battle but was unable to break onto the scoreboard in the final quarter.

Brody Hicks capped the scoring as he scored on a 21-yard touchdown run.

Burleson led Hampton with 184 yards on 15 carries, while Lunsford had 134 yards on 22 carries. Hicks and Trivett added 52 yards, while Greenwell finished with 41 yards.

Ramsey was 8-of-13 passing for Unaka, while Blamo had 57 receiving yards on six catches.

As a team, Hampton held Unaka to six rushing yards and 69 total offensive yards. The Bulldogs tallied 502 offensive yards in the win.
