Bulldogs Use Quick Start To Advance To District 1-A Title Game

Hampton earned a spot in the District 1-A Championship game convincingly.

The No. 1 Bulldogs raced out to a 21-5 lead in the opening quarter as Hampton rolled to a 73-49 win over No. 4 University High on Saturday afternoon in the District 1-A tournament semifinals on Warrior Hill. With the win, Hampton advanced to Tuesday’s championship game against the winner of the No. 2 Unaka and No. 3 North Greene semifinal.

After the teams swapped buckets to open the game, Chase Davenport hit back-to-back shots. Colby Clark and Tuff Robinson hit shots to keep the running going as the Bulldogs pushed the advantage to 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs answered each Buc shot to maintain the advantage. A 7-0 run late in the quarter extended the Hampton lead as the Bulldogs took a 39-25 lead into the half.

It was much the same in the third as Hampton held a 56-38 lead.

In the fourth, any thought of a UH comeback was quickly erased as Ezra Tolley and Clark sparked an 11-4 run to open the fourth as the Bulldogs took full control.

Clark led Hampton with 20 points and five rebounds. Robinson had 18 points and eight rebounds, while Davenport had 14 points. Bryce Fagan and Tolley had six and five points, respectively.
