Cloudland’s boys wanted to build off of the momentum of last Friday’s win. Unfortunately for Unaka, that is exactly what the ‘Landers did.
Cloudland jumped out to take a 69-46 victory over Unaka in Mountain East conference action on Tuesday night. In the girls’ game, the Lady Rangers used double-digit efforts from Hannah Tipton and Cheyenne Drew to take a 51-45 victory over the Lady ‘Landers.
The first quarter saw the teams trade points early as Kyler Lewis scored nine points for the Rangers, but Preston Benfield countered with seven points of his own to push the ‘Landers to a 13-9 lead after a quarter of play.
Lewis continued to have the hot hand shooting with six points in the second period. Cloudland, however, saw the offense pick up as they ran to a 27-19 lead at the half behind six points from Zac Benfield and Jesse Potter.
The Cloudland defense picked up the intensity in the third quarter by limiting the Rangers to just nine points, and the ‘Landers tallied 22 points in the frame to extend the lead. Unaka was unable to close into the gap in the final quarter as Cloudland secured the win.
P. Benfield led the way with 18 points, and Z. Benfield tossed in 14 points. Potter and Dalton Vines had nine and eight points, respectively.

Unaka, however, wasn’t done yet as they limited Cloudland to just two field goals in the third quarter while putting 16 points on the board including four points from Sierra Wright and three points apiece from Tipton and Drew. The Lady Rangers maintained a 36-34 lead entering the final quarter.
Cloudland saw Shian Strickland drain a pair of 3-pointers and Russell added another in the final period. However, Unaka was too strong as they secured the game on the free throw line to pick up the conference win.
