Cloudland saw a hard-fought effort come up a couple of yards short on Friday night.

The ‘Landers were turned away inside the Jellico 5 as time expired, as CHS fell 26-22 to the Blue Devils in Region 1-A action at Orr Field.

After getting the ball down with 3:14 left to play down 26-22, Cloudland moved quickly down the field as Jordan Hodges and Landon Barnette connected for a 14-yard completion, and Grayson Cole and Hodges had big runs to move CHS within the 5 with 30 seconds remaining.

The game had a lengthy delay after a scary injury to Jellico’s Jordan Perkins. Perkins was transported to a local hospital.
Once the game resumed, Cloudland was unable to break into the end zone before time expired.

Cole led Cloudland with 113 yards on 23 carries, while Gavyn Shell had 18 carries for 98 yards and a score. Landon Barnette finished with 57 yards.

Hodges was 4-for-7 passing for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Owen Morgan had 92 yards on eight carries to lead Jellico and was also 4-for-6 passing for 63 yards.

It was a back-and-forth battle all night.

Jellico opened the scoring as Morgan found Caydon Hamblin for a 35-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead. Cloudland, however, went to work on a methodical drive that ended as Cole scored on a three-yard run and added the two-point conversion to give CHS an 8-7 lead after a quarter of play.

Morgan answered early in the second for Jellico, but Hodges and Cole connected for a 21-yard touchdown to give Cloudland a 14-13 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the teams traded turnovers in the opening minutes, and Jellico took a 19-14 lead after a Hamblin 25-yard run.

Cloudland used another strong drive that was capped off by a five-yard Shell touchdown run, and then he added the two-point conversion.

Jellico took the lead with 3:14 to play as Hamblin scored on a 14-yard run.
