The Cloudland football program got back in the win column on Friday night.
The ‘Landers picked up their first win of the season with a 30-6 victory over Hancock County on the road. It was the Region 1-A opener for the ‘Landers, and extended the winning streak over the Indians to eight games.
Cloudland struck first as Hunter Blair scored on an 11-yard run with three minutes left in the first quarter. Triston Lacy added the two-point conversion to give the ‘Landers an 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After the teams traded possessions to open the second quarter, Lacy broke free for a 17-yard touchdown run and the Blair run on the two-point conversion to push the CHS lead to 16-0 with 4:31 left in the quarter.
Cloudland took a 22-0 advantage into the half as Hunter Shell hit Lacy for a 17-yard touchdown with nine seconds remaining in the first half.
The Indians trimmed the lead with just over six minutes to play in the final stanza, but Cloudland answered in a big way as Blair scored his second touchdown of the night with a 13-yard run. Shell added the conversion to secure the win for Cloudland.
The ‘Landers return to action next Friday night as they host Avery County (N.C.).
