Cloudland rolls past Unicoi; Lady ‘Landers hold on for win

Cloudland got back on the winning track on Saturday night.

The ‘Landers rolled to a 94-81 victory over Unicoi County, while the Lady ‘Landers held on for a 44-40 win over the Lady Blue Devils.


The ‘Landers hit the gas early.

Cloudland used six first-quarter points from Jason Potter to get the early momentum. CHS led the Blue Devils 17-9 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the teams play even as the ‘Landers held a 44-36 lead at the half.

Sophomore Josh Blair made his presence known to start the third quarter as he recorded 10 points in the frame. That helped CHS extend the lead to 66-48 going into the final eight minutes. The Blue Devils tried to cut into the CHS lead, but the ‘Landers kept UC at bay for the win.

Preston Benfield had a team-high 16 points, while Blair added 14 points. Robert Leeper had 13 points. Joseph Trivette and Brinkley Mull had 10 points apiece.

In the girls’ game, Cloudland eeked out a win over the Lady Blue Devils.

The first quarter saw Unicoi take a 6-4 lead after eight minutes of play. Shian Strickland helped get the CHS offense rolling with seven points in the second quarter. That pushed the Lady ‘Landers to a 19-12 advantage at the half.

In the third quarter, the teams traded points as CHS kept the Lady Blue Devils at arm’s length to take a 30-22 lead into the final quarter.

Trinity Vines put six points in the scorebook in the fourth quarter, while Strickland had five points as Cloudland secured the win.

Strickland had 17 points. Vines added 12 points and Stacia Wilson had seven points.
