Cloudland Unable To Keep Pace With Middlesboro

Cloudland was unable to keep pace with an out-of-state foe on Friday evening.

The ‘Landers dropped a 55-24 decision to Middlesboro (Ky) at Orr Field on Friday evening.

Grayson Cole had 181 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns, while Gavyn Shell added 95 yards on 20 carries. Landon Barnette had 17 carries for 79 yards with a touchdown.

After Cloudland recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff, the ‘Lander offense went to work quickly as Cole scored on a one-yard run. Gavyn Shell caught a Jordan Hodges pass for the two-point conversion.

The Yellow Jackets, however, answered on the ensuing kickoff as Colby Lawson raced 72 yards for a touchdown on the kickoff return.

Cloudland went back to work on the next drive as Barnette capped a methodical drive with a six-yard touchdown and Cole added the two-point conversion.

Middlesboro answered, but Cloudland maintained a 16-14 lead after a quarter of play.

The Yellow Jackets stymied the ‘Landers on fourth down and quickly scored on a Jacob Tinnell touchdown as Middlesboro took the lead. A 30-yard Tinnell touchdown run and Deakon Partin found Amari Houston for a 15-yard touchdown pass as Middlesboro took a 34-16 lead into the second half.

Cloudland continued to battle in the second half as Cole scored on a 38-yard run, but CHS was unable to answer the Middlesboro offense to mount a rally.

Caden Lawson had five carries for 176 yards and two touchdowns for Middlesboro. Partin was 8-of-11 passing for 223 yards with three touchdowns.
