Cloudland wins two over Unaka

It was a roller coaster game on Stoney Creek.

Cloudland and the Lady Rangers both built up double-digit leads before the Lady ‘Landers held on for a 60-55 victory on Tuesday night.

The ‘Landers captured a 75-36 win in the boys’ game.

Hannah Tipton and Savannah Tipton tallied five points apiece as the Lady Rangers opened the game by jumping out to a 10-point lead, and the Lady Rangers held a 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw Trinity Vines lead Cloudland to battle back as CHS limited Unaka to just five points. The Lady ‘Landers maintained a 26-22 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Cloudland pushed the lead to double-digits before Katlyn Weaver hit big baskets to help Unaka pull within 44-35. Weaver scored eight points in the final quarter as Unaka closed within one point. However, Stacia Wilson hit a jumper and Shian Strickland scored four straight points to secure the win for Cloudland.

Strickland led Cloudland with 20 points. Vines finished with 13 points, while Payton Johnson added eight points.

Unaka was led by Weaver’s 13 points, while H. Tipton and Sa. Tipton had nine points apiece.

The boys’ game opened with Cloudland jumping out to a 6-0 lead before Joe Searfoss sparked a 7-0 Unaka run. The ‘Landers took a 17-12 lead at the end of the quarter with a 11-5 run.

Colby Birchfield started the second quarter with a 3-pointer and the ‘Landers used a 14-0 run to take a 20-point lead into the half.

Birchfield tallied 16 points to pace Cloudland, while Chris Wagoner had 15 points. Preston Benfield and Jason Potter had 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Colton Chambers led Unaka with 21 points.
