Elizabethton steamrolled their way into the second round.
The Cyclones blasted Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) 45-13 to advance into the third round of the Class 3A playoffs.
With the win, Elizabethton will travel to Alcoa next week with a spot in the state semifinals on the line.
Sophomore Corey Russell opened the scoring late in the first quarter with a two-yard touchdown run. The extra point by Jaxton Holly gave EHS a 7-0 lead heading into the second quarter. Holly added a 26-yard field goal in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
After CAK added a FG, Jacob Turner scored on a six-yard run to push the Cyclone advantage to double-digits. From there, it was all Elizabethton.
Russell broke free for a 58-yard touchdown run, and the talent runner scored on a one-yard run to give the Cyclones a 31-3 lead at the half.
The Warriors opened the second half scoring with 10 straight points. However, Russell hit Conner Johnson for a 20-yard touchdown pass to regain momentum. Turner added the final score of the game on a six-yard scamper.
Russell tallied 148 yards on 21 carries. He also went 9-of-15 passing for 97 yards.
