Cyclones March Past Hilltoppers With Dominant Performance

Elizabethton was dominant on Friday night.
The Cyclones rolled to a 27-7 win over Science Hill for a season-opening win at Kermit Tipton Stadium, and EHS claimed the fifth win in six seasons against the Hilltoppers.
Elizabethton set the tone early.
EHS came out of the gate quickly and scored on the opening drive of the game as Zeth Mullins scored on an eight-yard run.
Elizabethton’s defense came up big early in the second quarter with a fumble recovery. That set up the game’s second score as Rhett Slagle found Jeriah Griffin for a 27-yard touchdown.
The Cyclone defense came up big again a few plays later.
Eli Blevins jumped in front of an SH pass and took it back 35 yards for a pick-six to give EHS a 21-0 lead.
The Hilltoppers broke onto the board late in the half, but Elizabethton held a 21-7 advantage at the break.
The second half continued to see Elizabethton remain in control.
EHS had the lone second-half touchdown when Mullins scored on a 12-yard run – a touchdown that was set up by a big punt return from Luke Whaley.
Slagle finished the night 7-of-11 for 75 yards, while Griffin had 58 yards receiving on four passes. Mullins had ten carries for 56 yards.
As a team, EHS outgained Science Hill 219-173.
Science Hill’s Javeon Emile had 18 carries for 90 yards.
The Cyclones return to the road for the second week of the season with a trip to Morristown West.
