Elizabethton held off a late rally to advance into the Winner’s Bracket.
The Cyclones outlasted Unicoi County 10-5 in the opening game of the District 1-3A tournament at Cardinal Park on Thursday night.
Elizabethton advances to take on Tennessee High in Friday’s winner bracket final.
Elizabethton opened the scoring in the first with a run and then added three more in the second.
The Cyclones pushed the lead to 5-0 after the third.
After the fourth and fifth went quietly, the Blue Devils rallied back with four runs in the sixth. However, Elizabethton was able to stop the run and hold a slim 5-4 lead heading into the final inning.
The Cyclones answered in a big way as EHS pushed five runs across the plate to secure the win.
Hayden Nave and Jack Farris were 2-for-3 at the plate. Bryson Rowland had three RBI.
On the mound, Peyton Johnson struck out eight batters and allowed just one earned run on two hits.
