The postseason keeps on going for the Elizabethton baseball team.

Logan Estep hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to power the Cyclones to a 3-2 victory over Gibbs in the Class AA sectional to punch Elizabethton’s ticket to the state tournament on Friday night in Thomas Stadium.

The 2018 Spring Fling is set to start on Tuesday, May 22 in Murfreesboro.

Elizabethton got on the board first Friday night as Evan Carter pushed Ryan Wetzel across home plate in the bottom of the first. Neither team was able to get back on the board until the top of the fourth when Gibbs scored two runs to take their first lead of the night.

The Cyclones, however, responded in the home side of the frame as Matthew Dailey hit a single to center field that brought Corey Russell sliding across the plate to even things up at 2-2.

The teams were able to put runners in scoring position, but neither team was able to plate a run forcing extra innings.

After Elizabethton retired Gibbs in order, the stage was set for Estep’s single that brought Russell in to send Elizabethton to Murfreesboro.

Dailey finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate, while Jacob Mullins, Wetzel, Russell and Estep each added a hit.

On the mound, Tre Shoun got the start and had a quality start going just over four innings while allowing just two earned runs on seven hits. Lawson Wagner picked up the win in nearly four innings of work as he held Gibbs to just two hits.

Gibb’s starter Cam Hill went four innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits. The Eagles were led by Will McSwain’s three hits at the plate.
