Elizabethton kept on rolling Sunday.

The Cyclones scored early and often in a 63-6 victory over Cherokee on Sunday – two days after the game was postponed due to lightning and rain.

With the win, EHS improved to 4-0 on the year.

The Cyclones wasted no time.

Rhett Slagle capped off a quick opening drive as he found Jeriah Griffin for a 9-yard touchdown to give EHS an early 7-0 lead.

Slagle and Griffin connected on the next drive for a 10-yard score, while Luke Whaley caught a Slagle pass for a 14-yard touchdown to send Elizabethton into the second quarter with a 21-0 lead.

Griffin caught his third touchdown of the day when he caught a Justin Whitehead pass for a 10-yard score early in the second.

Later in the quarter, Kaleb Holzer got in the scoring act as he scored on a four-yard run.

Griffin put an exclamation point on the half as he took a punt in the closing seconds back to the endzone for an 85-yard touchdown. EHS led 42-0 at the break.

It was more of the same for the Orange and Black in the second half.

After a huge defensive stand to open up the half, Cam Baker found the endzone with a five-yard run on Elizabethton’s opening drive of the half.

Cherokee broke onto the board early in the fourth, but Whaley answered in a big way on the ensuing kickoff as he raced 75 yards for a kick return touchdown.

Baker capped the scoring for the game with a 70-yard run.

Slagle went 6-of-7 passing for 72 yards, while Whitehead was 7-of-7 for 101 yards.

On the ground, Baker had three carries for 83 yards, while Holzer added four carries for 20 yards. Zeth

Mullins had 55 yards on the ground on two carries.

Griffin finished with five catches for 61 yards, while Eli Blevins had 55 yards on three catches.

Elizabethton’s next game was slated to be against Daniel Boone on Sept. 15, but the Trailblazers have canceled the matchup due to the rescheduling of the Daniel Boone-Morristown West game on Thursday.

If the Cyclones are unable to find a game for Friday night, EHS will return to action at Sullivan East on Sept. 22.
