Elizabethton came up on the wrong side of a thriller on Tuesday.
The Cyclones came up short in a back-and-forth battle in a 65-60 decision to Greeneville in the Region 1-3A Semifinals at Grainger. With the loss, Elizabethton’s season comes to a close.
In the first quarter, Evan Chambers scored five points in the opening quarter while Jackson Buckles added four more. However, Greeneville took a 17-13 advantage into the second quarter.
EHS was able to trim into the lead as Hudson Pate tallied seven points in the frame. The Greene Devils held a 35-32 lead at the half.
It continued to be a back-and-forth battle in the second half as neither team was able to get separation. Greeneville led 49-47 after three complete quarters.
The Cyclones continued to battle to the last second but was unable to get in front in the closing minutes.
Elizabethton was paced by Nathan Bailey’s 18 points, while Pate added 15 points. Chambers and Buckles added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Jordan Mills and Zy Neal recorded 20 and 19 points, respectively, to pace Greeneville.
