Elizabethton took care of business on Friday night.
The Cyclones rolled to a 31-21 win over previously unbeaten Volunteer in Region 1-4A play in Church Hill on Friday night. With the win, Elizabethton Head Coach Shawn Witten tied his grandfather, Dave Rider, for the most coaching wins in program history with 173 career wins.
Elizabethton jumped out early.
Rhett Slagle opened the scoring on a short run while William Bowers added the extra point to give EHS a 7-0 lead.
The Cyclone defense special teams came up big later in the quarter as CJ Mathis picked up a blocked punt and returned it for a score as EHS took a 14-0 advantage. Slagle struck again in the second quarter with a short run.
The Falcons saw Owen Fleenor score on a 38-yard run to trim the EHS lead to 21-7 at the half.
In the third quarter, Elizabethton scored as Zach Wallin caught a 17-yard pass from Slagle for a touchdown.
Bowers added a 24-yard field goal to give EHS a 31-7 lead. The Falcons scored two touchdowns late to account for the final.
Slagle went 22-of-25 passing. Z. Wallin had 12 cataches for 146 yards.
