Happy Valley 5, South Greene 3
District 1-2A Tournament Elimination Game
The Warriors kept the season alive on Thursday.
Happy Valley is set to take on Chuckey-Doak on Friday night at Joe O’Brien Field in an elimination game.
HV jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning to set the tone. The Warriors pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fourth. South Greene plated three runs in the sixth and was able to get the tying run on base in the seventh. However, the Warriors held strong to secure the win.
Mikey Hampton had two hits, while Lane Parker and Hampton each had a double. Greg Visser had two RBI.

Elizabethton 7, Daniel Boone 2
District 1-3A Tournament
The Cyclones plated five runs in the first to take a win in the opening round of the District 1-3A Tournament.
The Cyclones advance to the Winner Bracket final against Tennessee High. That game is slated for Friday afternoon at 5p at Thomas Stadium in Johnson City.
EHS took a 5-0 lead in the first and added another run in the second. After the Trailblazers plated two in the top of the fourth, Elizabethton responded with one more.
Justin Whitehead picked up the win on the mound as he allowed just two earned runs on two hits in seven innings of work. He struck out eight batters and walked just one.
Rhett Slagle had a hit and an RBI for EHS, while Jack Blevins and Seth Holly each recorded a hit. Elijah Ambrose tallied three RBI.
Whitehead recorded four runs scored, and JD Hooks, Ryan Kasting, Carter Reece, and Slagle each scored a run.
Hampton 16, North Greene 8
District 1-A Tournament
The Bulldogs got rolling in the fourth and never looked back.
Hampton will take on University High in Friday night’s Winner’s Bracket final at 6p at Sullivan East.
Hampton plated two runs in the fourth to add to a slim lead and added six more in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead into the bottom of the inning. North Greene was able to get a run back, but Hampton plated five more in the sixth to take control.
Colby Clark was 3-for-4 with four RBI at the plate. On the mound, the freshman allowed just one earned run on four hits with 10 strikeouts in five innings of work.
Eli Henson had three hits and two RBI, while Memphis Nave had a hit and three RBI. Brock Shelby tallied two hits. Kasey Gilbert, Jayden Kuhn, and Cade Nelson each had a hit and an RBI. Cash Royston and Brayden Otey finish with a hit apiece.
University High 16, Unaka 1
District 1-A Tournament
The Rangers were unable to keep pace with a steady offensive attack on Thursday in the first round of the District 1-A tournament.
Unaka will take on North Greene on Saturday in an elimination game at Sullivan East.
On Thursday, UH jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and pushed the advantage to 5-0 through two innings. The Rangers kept battling but was unable to cut into the deficit.
Cooper Shanks, Bryson Eggers, Jake Carr, Connor Vines, Jacob Carrier, and Brandon Buckles each had a hit for Unaka. Vines recorded an RBI.
Softball
University High 11, Hampton 3
District 1-A Play-in Game
The Lady Bulldogs were unable to extend the season on Thursday night.
Hampton opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first. However, UH answered with five in the home side of the first and two more in the second. The Lady Bulldogs kept battling, but were unable to rally past the Lady Bucs.
Lauren Smith and Kiera McKinney were 2-for-3 with one RBI apiece, while Mallory Lamb was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Emma Birchfield had a hit and an RBI. Brylee Russell added a hit.
