It was an offensive shootout early. However, the Elizabethton baseball team wasn’t able to keep pace with the Class AA fifth ranked team.

Unicoi used a four-run second inning as they took a 7-4 victory over Elizabethton on Wednesday evening at Baxter Field in Erwin.

After both teams scored three runs in the opening inning, the Blue Devils tallied four runs in the second frame, while Elizabethton was limited to just one run. That proved to be the difference as the pitchers settled into a pitchers duel for the rest of the game.

Cameron Miller was handed the loss for the Cyclones, while Dylan Putman records his first varsity win. Sam McInturff earned the save.

Justin Carr led the way at the plate for Elizabethton as he went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Hunter Burnett was 1-for-3 with three RBIs for the Blue Devils including a two-run homerun. Unicoi shortstop Ethan Rice went 2-for-3.

Elizabethton finished the season with a 14-20 overall record, while the Blue Devils finished the season with a 22-7 mark. Both squads start District 1-AA action on Friday at J. Fred Johnson Stadium in Kingsport.
