Elizabethton Falls To Greeneville In Region 1-4A Clash

Elizabethton was unable to overcome a quick Greeneville run to close out the first half.

The Cyclones fell 41-7 to Greeneville in the regular season finale in Greeneville as the Greene Devils used two pick-sixes to close out the first half to take full momentum.

With the win, Greeneville claimed the Region 1-4A title while the Cyclones will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed from Region 1-4A.

Greeneville opened the scoring as Carson Quillen scored on a four-yard run to give Greeneville a 7-0 lead with 7:06 left in the first.

The Cyclones embarked on a lengthy drive but were unable to get on the board as Greeneville took a 7-0 lead into the second quarter.

The Greene Devils struck quickly as Caden Baugh hit Zaydyn Anderson for a 69-yard touchdown, but the extra point was blocked by the Cyclones.

Elizabethton, however, battled back.

EHS went on a 13-play drive that was capped when Rhett

Slagle found Zach Wallin for a 15-yard touchdown. Will Bowers added the extra point as EHS trimmed the lead 13-7 with 3:19 left in the half.

Two plays later, Justus Wallin came up big for the Cyclone defense with an interception to set EHS up inside the Greeneville 20. However, the Greene Devils saw Anderson intercept an EHS pass on the next play from scrimmage and he raced 89 yards for the pick-six.

On the next drive, Greeneville’s Isaac McGill intercepted an Elizabethton pass and took it 32 yards for the touchdown to give Greeneville a 27-7 lead with 1:18 to play in the half – which is what the score remained at the half.

In the third quarter, Greeneville took nearly six minutes off the clock with a lengthy drive to open the half, and Quillen capped it with a 23-yard touchdown.

Elizabethton continued to battle but was unable to get anything going offensively.

A fourth-quarter Quillen touchdown accounted for the final score.

Slagle went 11-of-19 passing for 114 yards, while he added 17 yards on 15 carries.

Z. Wallin had three catches for 32 yards, while Jack Blevins had two catches for 27 yards.

Quillen finished the game with three touchdowns and 18 rushes for 146 yards, while Baugh added 70 yards on the ground on 10 carries and also went 7-of-8 for 121 yards. Anderson had three catches for 93 yards.
