With just over a week remaining in the regular season, the Lady Cyclones and Hampton boys remained ranked in the AP Prep Basketball polls. Elizabethton girls were a unanimous No. 1 vote in Class AA girls’ poll, while the Hampton boys were in a tie for No. 8 in the Class A boys’ poll.

The Lady Cyclones rolled past Sullivan East and Unicoi County last week to remain in the familiar No. 1 spot. EHS garnered all 14 first-place votes with a 24-0 record. McMinn Central and Westview rounded out the top three with Upperman and East Nashville taking No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Region foe Grainger was ranked No. 7.

The Bulldogs were ranked in the No. 8 spot alongside Van Buren County with wins over North Greene and Happy Valley. Hampton is 18-6 on the year, and have won nine straight games.

Halls claimed 11 of 14 first-place votes to stay atop the poll, while Mitchell was second with the remaining three votes. Clay County, Huntland and Union City rounded out the top five.

Elizabethton, who had Monday’s game against Johnson County postponed due to snow, is slated to host Happy Valley on Tuesday, while Hampton is set to host Grainger.
