Elizabethton moves up, Hampton holds steady

It was Elizabethton’s turn to move up in the Tennessee AP Prep Football poll.

The Cyclones moved up one spot to No. 5 in the Class 3A poll, while Hampton held steady at No. 4 in the Class 2A poll.

Elizabethton rallied for a 21-20 victory over Tennessee High on Friday night. Elizabethton tallied 104 points in the poll, 37 behind No. 4 Liberty Magnet. Alcoa claimed 14 of the 19 first-place votes to claim the top spot, with CAK and CPA in second and third, respectively.

Pigeon Forge, the Cyclones’ next opponent and region mate, was No. 9 on the poll after dropping four spots.

In Class 2A, the Bulldogs tallied 127 points, including a first-place vote, to hold steady at No. 4 Hampton, who dispatched Cloudland 56-30 on Friday, is 21 points ahead of No. 5 Sullivan North, who share a region with Hampton. Boyd Buchanan moved into the top spot, with Marion County and Adamsville rounding out the top-three.

Hampton travels to Happy Valley on Friday night.

Other local teams include Dobyns-Bennett (No. 6 in Class 6A), Science Hill (No. 8 in Class 6A) and Greenville (No. 2 in Class 4A).
