Elizabethton Rally Falls Short Against Vikings

Elizabethton saw a late rally fall just short on Friday night.

The Cyclones saw a fourth-quarter rally fall short in a 20-17 decision to Tennessee High inside Citizens’ Bank Stadium on Friday evening.

It was a defensive battle early on as neither team was able to break into the end zone in the first 12 minutes.

The Vikings scored late in the second quarter as Knox Keesee found Bo Utsman for a 30-yard touchdown pass as THS took a 7-0 lead. William Bowers answered with a 49-yard field goal for Elizabethton to trim the lead to 7-3 at the half.

In the third quarter, Tennessee High pushed the lead to 20-3 after three complete quarters with a Keesee touchdown pass as well as a Keesee 10-yard touchdown run.

Elizabethton, however, wouldn’t go quietly.

Legend Pate and Peyton Lingerfelt connected with a 20-yard touchdown pass in the opening minute of the fourth.

With 5:22 to play, Pate caught another Lingerfelt pass for a 13-yard score as EHS pulled within 20-17.

The Vikings, however, were able to secure the win in the closing minutes.

Lingerfelt was 15-of-21 passing for 132 yards and two touchdowns. The senior quarterback also added 39 yards on 10 carries.

Pate had five catches for 63 yards, while Ryan Jones and Devin Bowman had 34 and 27 receiving yards, respectively.
