In another close vote, Cloudland’s Courtney Wilson was the fan’s vote for the Female Athlete of the Year in our Best of Carter County Sports.
Wilson wrapped up a solid career as she averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game in her senior season, and was named to the TSWA Class A All-State team. The Milligan College signee surpassed 1,500 points and 900 rebounds in her high school career.
Wilson was a part of one of the most successful runs in the program’s history as they won over 100 games in four years as well as qualified for two TSSAA Class A appearances.
This season, Cloudland girls basketball team to a 31-6 season including starting 16-2 to open the year. The Lady ‘Landers picked up wins over Volunteer, Gate City, Wise Central and Unicoi County before reeling off wins against Creek Wood, Sullivan South and Sevier County to claim the prestigious Johnson City Honda Trailblazer Classic at Daniel Boone.
The sailing, however, wasn’t all smooth as a pair of losses to North Greene and South Greene prevented Cloudland from claiming the District title, but they entered the postseason as the three seed in the District 1-A tournament.
In the District 1-A tournament, Wilson and the Lady ‘Landers avenged the regular season losses as they rolled to the title, and then kept the momentum up as they won the Region 1-A title at Chucky-Doak. Wilson was named to both the All-District and All-Region Tournament teams.
Cloudland saw their season come to a close in a heartbreaking fashion as they fell in overtime to Meigs County in the sectional round.
