An opportunity has opened up for past gridiron stars from the Tri-Cities.

The Erwin Knights are currently recruiting players from northeast Tennessee for the inaugural year inside the World Class Football League.

“We’re looking forward to this season,” Knights’ head coach Andy Slagle said. “We’ve gotten a bunch athletes on board but we’re always looking for more players.”

Slagle, previously from Elizabethton, lives and works from Unicoi County as a student resource officer at Unicoi County High School.

Creating teams comes natural for Slagle, the creator of the Unicoi Raiders, a previous three-time champion, in the Greene County Adult Baseball League. The team was comprised with a multitude of Erwin players, along with former standouts from Carter County.

The team is based in Erwin but Slagle said the team will take any players interested for another shot of hitting the gridiron.

“You just have to be over the age of 18,” he added. “There’s a $60 player fee but we’ll have everything supplied. We’ve started practicing to prepare for the season in 2015.”

Individuals interested in joined the team can contact Slagle via email at [email protected] or can visit The Erwin Knights’ public page on Facebook.
