Carter received the call on Thursday afternoon after Texas outfield Adolis Garcia was placed on the 10-day injured list.
Carter is the No. 1 prospect for the Rangers and was named the organization’s Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America last season.
He has been with the organization’s Triple-A team Round Rock since the end of August.
The Friday first pitch against Oakland is set for 8:05p ET in Arlington, TX.
