Friday District Tournament Roundup: Lady Cyclones Cruise To Opening Win; Cyclones, Bulldogs Fall In Winners Bracket Finals

District 1-3A Tournament Opening Game
The Lady Cyclones opened postseason play in style.

Elizabethton plated six runs in the top of the first and rolled to a win in the opening round of the District 1-3A tournament. EHS will take on David Crcokett on Monday at 5:30 in Elizabethton.

After East scored a run in the opening frame, the Lady Cyclones responded in a big way with six runs in the home side of the first and two more in the second. From there, Elizabethton was able to slowly add to the lead to take the win.

Kaitlyn Gryder was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Lacey Gobble was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Ava Hanson had two hits and two RBI. Gracie Shepard had two RBI and a hit.

Lyla Hardin and Brook Sparks had a hit apiece.

In the pitching circle, Gobble had three earned runs on nine hits.

Tennessee High 4, Elizabethton 3
District 1-3A Winner’s Bracket Final
The Cyclones came up on the wrong side of a heartbreaker on Friday as Tennessee High plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a walkoff win.

EHS will take on David Crockett in an elimination game at noon at Thomas Stadium in Johnson City.

Elizabethton struck first in the top of the third as Justin Whitehead scored off a passed ball and Rhett Slagle hit an inside-the-park home run that also allowed JD Hooks to score. The Cyclones were unable to add to the advantage and held a 3-0 lead going to the seventh.

The Vikings, however, battled back with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the win.

Hooks went 2-for-3 for the Cyclones, and Slagle had two RBI with a hit. Justin Whitehead and Jack Blevins each had a hit apiece.

On the mound, Slagle allowed just one earned on eight hits in a complete game effort.

Chuckey-Doak 7, Happy Valley 2
District 1-2A Elimination Game
The Warriors fought to the last out, but were unable to extend the season on Friday night.

Chuckey-Doak jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and pushed the advantage to 5-0 in the second. The Warriors kept battling and got a run back in the third. HV was unable to capitalize on baserunners until the seventh, but was unable to rally.

Mikey Hampton had a hit and an RBI, while Ty Johnson and Artee Bahn had a hit and a run scored apiece. Aiden Hartsook and Lane Parker each had a hit.

Grady Goulds struck out 10 batters and allowed just five earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.

University High 12, Hampton 2
District 1-A Winners Bracket Final
The Bulldogs were unable to keep up with the bats of University High on Friday evening.

Hampton falls in a Saturday elimination game against the winner of the North Greene and Unaka contest at 3:45 at Sullivan East.

UH jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added five more in the second. Hampton kept battling, but was unable to cut into the lead.

Colby Clark had two hits – including a double – and two RBI, and Eli Henson added two hits. Kasey Gilbert and Jayden Kuhn each recorded a hit.
