Hampton 71, South Greene 55
The Bulldogs took care of business in a big district contest Friday night.
After Hampton took a 17-12 lead after a quarter of play, the Bulldogs pushed the advantage to 35-22 at the half.
The Rebels battled back by outscoring Hampton 21-10 in the third quarter to close within 45-43 heading to the fourth. Hampton, however, answered and pulled away taking advantage of South Greene foul trouble and converting key opportunities.
Chase Davenport led the way with 18 points, while Bryce Fagan had 16 points. Caden Davis scored 13 points in the win. Tuff Robinson had 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Happy Valley 60, Chuckey Doak 44
The Warriors methodically pulled away for a district win.
HV took a 15-11 lead after the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 27-21 at the half as Ron Paul Parker scored 16 points in the first half.
The Warriors pushed the advantage to double-digits in the third quarter and held the Black Knights at bay to secure the win.
Parker finished with 24 points to lead the way. Austin Stines scored 11 points, while Austin Nickles had 10 points.
Unaka 68, Washburn 39
The Rangers rolled to a win on Friday night.
Unaka took an 18-10 lead after a quarter of play and quickly pushed the advantage to 33-22 at the half.
Any thought of a Washburn comeback was quickly dismissed in the third quarter as the Rangers outscored the Pirates 15-8 in the third.
John Hardin had 29 points to lead Unaka. Aiden Walsh tossed in 13 points, while Rylan Crabtree had 12 points. Mason Wilson scored nine points.
KACHEA 66, Cloudland 49
The ‘Landers were unable to overcome a quick KACHEA start on Friday night.
KACHEA jumped out to an 18-5 lead in the first quarter and were able to hold off Cloudland despite a hard-fought effort.
Uriah Jarrett led Cloudland with 20 points. Nick Caraway scored 14 points.
Girls
South Greene 61, Hampton 56 (2OT)
The Lady Bulldogs came up short in a double-overtime thriller.
It was a back-and-forth battle from the opening tip as Hampton held a slim 8-5 lead after a quarter of play. Faye Carrico and Hannah Smith scored four points apiece in the second as Hampton was able to maintain an 18-12 lead at the half.
After the teams matched each other’s offensive output in the third, South Greene was able to erase the deficit and force overtime.
South Greene jumped out to an early lead before Smith – who scored all four Hampton points in the extra frame – hit a key shot to force a second overtime. Smith scored six points in the second OT while Carrico added a bucket, but Hampton was unable to outlast South Greene.
Smith finished with 21 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs, while Piper Helle had nine points.
Ella Estep and Carrico scored eight and seven points, respectively.
Unaka 64, Washburn 35
The Lady Rangers used a big third quarter to pull away and take a victory.
After Washburn held a 10-9 lead after the first quarter, the Lady Rangers outscored the Lady Pirates 16-9 in the second quarter to retake the lead.
Unaka continued to have all the momentum in the third quarter by outscoring Washburn 24-5.
Michelle Shields scored 19 points for Unaka, while Ari Sutherland had 10 points. Katlyn Dugger scored eight points.
