Friday Round-up: Lady ‘Landers, Lady Warriors Take Wins

Cloudland 53, Johnson County 25
The Lady ‘Landers set the tone early and never looked back.
CHS raced out to a 20-2 lead in the first quarter and held a 19-point lead at the half.

Any thought of a Johnson County comeback was erased in the third quarter as CHS outscored the Lady Longhorns 16-8.

Ella Benfield had 15 points to lead Cloudland, while Izabelle Christman and Kendall Birchfield had nine points apiece. Katie Baldwin and Ryan Turbyfill had six points apiece.

Johnson County was led by Peyton Gentry’s nine points.

Happy Valley 63, Chuckey-Doak 27
The Lady Warriors slowly used a big third quarter to pull away from the Lady Black Knights.

After holding an 11-9 lead after a quarter of play, HV extended the lead to 32-24 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Warriors outscored the visitors 17-7 to take full control.

Holly Moore had 21 points to lead the way. Kadie Bailey added 16 points, while Marcida Moore tossed in nine points.

Sanish Atchison had six points to lead Chuckey-Doak.

Boys
Chuckey-Doak 58, Happy Valley 42
The Warriors were unable to bounce back from an early deficit on Friday night.

HV trailed 13-10 after a quarter of play, but the Black Knights pushed the lead to double-digits after outscoring the Warriors 16-7 in the frame.

Happy Valley continued to fight but was unable to rally in the second half.

Dakota Grindstaff had 14 points for HV, while James Murray had 11 points. Landon Babb tossed in eight points.

Johnson County 63, Cloudland 46
Johnson County methodically pulled away from Cloudland on Friday night.

The ‘Landers trailed 15-10 after a quarter of play but were unable to close the gap in the second quarter as the Longhorns held an 11-point advantage.

Cloudland was unable to make a run in the second half despite a hard-fought effort.

Victor Hicks had 12 points, while Caleb Sluder added 11 points. Noah Barnett had five points.

Zach Parsons had 28 points to lead Johnson County.
