Friday Round-up: Ramsey Pushes Unaka Past Rockwood; Lady Cyclones Use Big Third Quarter To Advance

Unaka 58, Rockwood 42 (girls)
The Lady Rangers opened a double-digit lead in the second quarter and never looked back.

After Unaka held a slim 14-3 lead after the first quarter, the Lady Rangers held Rockwood to just two points in the second quarter to take a 29-15 lead at the half.

From there, Unaka was able to take care of business to secure the win.

Lyndie Ramsey had 40 points to lead Unaka. Keyona Hague had four points, while four players added three points.

Elizabethton 64, Lumpkin County (Ga.) 46
The Lady Cyclones used a quick start to the second half to take the win in the Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic in Greeneville.

Elizabethton took a 21-16 lead after a quarter of play and maintained a 32-28 advantage at the half.

The Lady Cyclones started the third quarter quickly and outscored Lumpkin County 24-4 in the frame to take full control of the game.

Olivia Holly had 16 points for Elizabethton, while Lina Lyons had 15 points. Marlee Mathena and Renna Lane had 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Gate City. (Va) 48, Cloudland 44 2OT (girls)
The Lady ‘Landers came up short in a heartbreaker Friday night.

Cloudland took a 15-9 lead after the first eight minutes and maintained a 25-17 lead at the half.

CHS continued to stay in control in the third by pushing the lead to 32-20 after three compete.

Gate City, however, rallied to force overtime by outscoring CHS 17-5 in the fourth.

Points were hard to come by in the first overtime with both teams scoring four points, and Gate City was able to edge ahead in the final minute of the second overtime to remain undefeated.

Izabella Christman had 21 points to lead Cloudland, while Kendall Birchfield had nine points.

Rockwood 53, Unaka 36 (boys)
The Rangers were unable to keep pace with the Tigers on Friday morning.

Unaka battled hard but saw Rockwood methodically build to the lead.
