The Lady Bulldogs had an upset on their mind on Friday night. However, North Greene had another idea.

Hampton lead for nearly the entire game before a last second rally pushed the No. 10 Lady Huskies to a 45-42 victory over the Lady Bulldogs in Baileyton. In the boys’ contest, Hampton pulled away to an 80-52 victory.

In the varsity opener, Hampton and the Lady Huskies played to a 15-15 tie, but the Lady Bulldogs defense limited North Greene’s chances in the second quarter as they limited them to just three points. That allowed Hampton to pull out to a 27-18 lead heading into the second half.

The Lady Huskies slowly cut into the lead as they pulled within five points at the end of the third quarter. Hampton kept the Lady Huskies at bay until a pair of free throws by the Lady Huskies gave NG a 42-41 lead with just under 16 seconds to play. The Lady Bulldogs were unable to convert a pair of free throws on the opposite end with just under 10 seconds to play to get back in front.

In the boys’ game, the Huskies kept pace early with the Bulldogs as Hampton led 13-10 after a quarter of play. However, Stanley Valentine and company extended the lead to 11 points at the half, and held a 52-35 advantage at the end of the third quarter. From there, Hampton controlled the game to take the victory.
