Hampton Comes Up Short In District 1-2A Semifinal Clash

Hampton came up on the wrong side of a thriller on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs dropped a 57-52 decision to West Greene in the District 1-2A semifinals at West Greene High School. Hampton will take on Johnson County in Tuesday’s consolation game.

Hampton had to battle back from an early deficit as West Greene jumped out to a 21-13 lead after eight minutes of play.

The Bulldogs battled back as Chase Davenport scored seven points in the second quarter and HHS outscored WG 16-11. The Buffaloes led 32-29 at the half.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle as Hampton was able to tie the game before WG answered. West Greene maintained a 3-point advantage going to the fourth.

The Bulldogs got back within one point in the final quarter but were unable to get back in front.

Tuff Robinson led Hampton with 19 points, while Davenport added 18 points. Ezra Tolley and Jackson Smith finished with five and four points, respectively.

Conner Campbell had 18 points to pace the Buffaloes, while Braden McCamey scored 15 points.
